New parts, progress

Not much of updates done here lately... But things actually start to happen now, even if its slowly its atleast getting some progress! A bunch of new parts have found its way to the garage such as electrical wiring system, igniters, pedal assembly etc.

Scraping and welding

A major part of the body have been cleaned from thick rustpreventing coating! - we have even started to weld the chassie together now! I'd say we're doing som progress now.

Work started again

Now we have started work on the car again! In addition, we received some new parts to be installed - however, most of them require rebuilding ... surprising .. NOT :P

What has happened then? We have largely just put the car aside to gather strength, because we know what kind of work lies ahead. Already at an early stage, we knew what to do... And we will not compromise, but to do everything the way we want it, even if it means that it takes much longer and is more work for us. Body should be scraped from rust-protection, and be welded. 12m tubing are ordered for the rollcage to supplement it and make the chassis stiffer. Strut towers will be modified and strengthened. A complete sport quattro plastic body kit has been acquired to be installed. We've got our custom pistons so now the block can be bored too! A used diff and pump has been acquired with adjustable LSD. A Haltech E11 is also waiting to get fitted and mapped.

Lack of time

Its been a very long time now since we did any updates here, but its just aswell as long time since we did anything with the car! Involvement in other projects aswell as lack of time is the reason for not working on the car until recently. Now the car is basically stripped of everything....

Exercises of the summer

The head have been left away to be checked and the block left to be bored What happened during the summer?

We went to Björkvik and our first trackday for this summer at fifth of Juli. At about 7000rpm on second gear the belt running the oilpump snapped of….That ment the end of that day, just to pack up and go home.It shouldn´t be a big problem since the engine was turned of immidetly, but considering that there are Irrystickers om the car it was doomed to be moore trouble, and it was…It tourned out that the pulley got stuck in the timingbelt and med it “ jump” a couple of teeth. Well, how bad is it, as you might know the valves have a tendency of interfere with the pistons…and that was happened.We were a bit lucky at all, we found small marks in the pistons but no real damage, althou we decided to totally rebuild the engine anyway. The cylinderhead looks undamaged but we will anyway have it checked to se if there is anything else to do when already is taken apart. More info about the engine will come later.We also decided to rebuild some other things on the car.At the moment the gearbox is on the workbench and waiting for is coming...

As it looks now we wont be driving with the car during 2004 and instead we are trying to do things all the way.

Blacksmithing

Hardwork! Grinding and welding all day!! The positive about that is that things now start to move, but on the aother we have spent alot of ours in the garage during the past few weeks! The new rear subframe have been finished now only waiting to be sandblasted and painted. The tankframe is completed, front subframe reinforced.

Chassis work

Now it is starting to happen things. The front subframe have been modified for a rollbar. When we took down the aft subframe to see if would be possible to mount a rollbar there we discovered that the studs????? For the differential were starting to crack up. This resulted in building a new subrame wich has to be modified to adapt with our strut. Aft it will be a rollbar wich normaly is found in the front of an S2, we only need to make new connections to the lower controlarms.We now got all the parts we need for the new fuelsystem, among others a 30ltrs ATL fuelcell and 2 Bosch 044 fuelpumps. This should cure the problems we had with fuel at high boost and >7000rpm. We also ordered a new oilcooler from Swedish company Setrab. As soon as we get it it, will be placed on top of the intercooler wich has to be cut down a bit to make room. The hoses with oil that go from the engine to the oiltank in the boot is going to be moved to the passengerside to make it possible to lower the floor on the drivers side, modification have started. We found a couple of places on the body that need to be strengthened to awoid the body from cracking up…The rearbrakes have been sanblasted, painted and new seals have been mounted. The frontbrakes just got back from TRW motorsport in Germany were they have been restored, new sealings and a couple of new pistons.We have also bought a adjustable pressure valve for the rear brakes.
