RTM airbox and tightning the nuts for the exhaust manifold

Written by NEO June 04 2008 at 23:44.

PICT0315PICT0328PICT0326

Had the airbox over at Prostys garage for a rebuild into an RTM airbox. It turned out really good and it looks a bit better with the "original" airbox under the hood then my earlier setup.

When the airbox was removed I took the opportunity to tighten the nuts for the exhaust manifold. Those bastards are so hard to reach and tighten properly so I made a little special tool for it. Far from optimal and not that good, but think I got them all tightened now.

Newly renovated wastegate

I have not written so much about it here (if at all...) but I have some issues with the car cutting out and overboost. I have tried pretty much anything. And to make a long story into a short one, now I tried a newly renovated wastegate too. No difference. =(

Smoked indicators and caliper bracket prototype

Written by NEO April 10 2008 at 22:58.

PICT0284PICT0289PICT0290

I stumbled across some smoked indicators for the RS2 front spoiler. Pretty poor quality and bad crafted but still think they looks pretty good once on the car.

I also got the second prototype of the RS4-b7 caliper brackets. It's still way off. =/

Silicone hoses, loads of 'em! Quattronics = FAIL, Roose Motorsport = success!

Written by NEO February 27 2008 at 22:38.

PICT0182PICT0183PICT0185PICT0199

For some months ago I took on me to arrange a group buy of silicone hoses. It first started out as an order from Quattronics. But after months of nagging and seconds away from turning it into a police matter I got the money back from Corey at quattronics (I can not strongly enough warn against doing business with Corey and quattronics). Instead I ordered them from Roose Motorsport, who manufactured them for quattronics. The deal went really smooth and Roose really came through. Though he stopped answer my e-mails after a while when I wanted to buy more hoses, kinda odd?

RS4-b7 rear brakes!

Written by NEO February 26 2008 at 16:22.

I needed something at the rear of the car to match the RS4-b7 setup at the front. What could be better then RS4-b7 rear brakes? =) They are supposed to be pretty much bolt on. The only thing that needs modification should be the wire for the parking brake. I don't know how to solve that yet.

VW Phaeton splash shields

I realized I had not taken any photos of the splash shields I'm modifying for the front brake setup. They are from the VW Phaeton. Basically it just has to get a new plate welded to it so it fits to the front struts.

New Years Eve

Written by NEO December 31 2007 at 16:12.

PICT0088_1024PICT0092_1024PICT0093_1024PICT0097_1024PICT0099_1024PICT0101_1024PICT0119_1024PICT0121_1024PICT0113_1024PICT0117_1024PICT0108_1024PICT0102_1024

Aaaah... New Years Eve! What could be better them to sum this year up here at irry? =) And maybe to speculate about 2008.

Well... As usual not much happened during 2007. The biggest thing would be the two ABT rear hatches that I bought from Germany. I didn't complete the RS4/RS6 front break conversion. And I have not decided what rear brakes to use. So this is two issues that has to be resolved during 2008. At least I tested the prototype adapter for the RS-calipers this weekend. I have made some adjustments to it and now I have to wait for a new prototype. Some pictures of it can be seen below.

Another biggie for 2008 is my job situation. Work work work... I work a lot! And that will probably not change in 2008. So I really don't have the time for the S2 any longer and I actually don't have the need for it. So I have started to question whether it's really worth it or if I should sell the car. There is so much that I want to do with it and it will cost me A LOT of money. I still have to complete the RS2 conversion of the rear spoiler and light ramp. I need a set of KW-coilovers or similar. And maybe the biggest issue of them all... I need to paint the whole car. And a paint job for me is not just to rough up the old paint and apply the new paint... We're talking total disassembly with the removal of all panels, the engine and everything. The body will also need some repair and touch up, mainly of both rocker panels. And while the engine is out of the car one would probably want to do some adjustments to it... So the biggest question of 2008 is probably whether I should sell or keep the car.

S5 emblems

Written by NEO September 01 2007 at 15:58.

PICT0669_1024PICT0671_1024

Since the "2" I got manufactured didn't meat my quality norms I have bought the S5 emblem that will be a better template for the new "2". I will start with creating it in 3D, Maya. Then export it to some cad format and after that hand the file over to some manufacturer.

Emblems fitted on the ABT hatch

Written by NEO August 23 2007 at 15:55.

PICT0630_1024PICT0631_1024PICT0632_1024PICT0633_1024PICT0634_1024PICT0635_1024PICT0637_1024PICT0638_1024PICT0641_1024PICT0642_1024PICT0643_1024

I mounted the emblems on the hatch today. Bought new rings at Audi and mounted the new S-emblem with a custom "2". A set of new 2's will be made since this one is far from perfect. It might fool an old lady from 20 meters in total darkness. But anybody else will see that it's not an original piece. Sooo, it does not meet the ISO-NEO2002 standard. =)

BREMS LICHT!

Written by NEO August 22 2007 at 15:46.

PICT0620_1024PICT0623_1024PICT0624_1024PICT0625_1024

Today I was over at the garage and measured where the emblems are mounted on the original hatch. Think I have enough measurements to fit all the new emblems to the ABT hatch now.

I also had to rewire the cables for the extra brake light. I noticed that the autocheck didn't like my wiring. It screamed "BREMS LICHT". The solution was to connect the feeder line before the cables goes into the autocheck unit (located behind the spare wheel at the back). The earth is connected to the ground wire that originally connects to the pump that pumps water to the spray nozzle on the hatch. Since I removed the wiper on the ABT hatch the pump is not needed any more so felt like a good solution. =)
