I have no idea what I was thinking yesterday when I posted the pictures of the rear calipers and said that the handbrake assembly was the same as the one on the S2 coupé. It's not even close to similar! In fact, the Phaeton W12 rear caliper is a worse pick then the RS4 b7 caliper and I can't see any way to make the handbrake cable to work on the coupé. And what I said about the Phaeton calipers being a lot bigger then the RS4 b7's was also wrong. In fact, the RS4b7 caliper and the Phaeton caliper are near identical. The only difference is the handbrake assembly and an area near the brake line connector that has been grinded down on the RS4 caliper. I'm almost certain that the calipers are made in the same molds in the TRW factory. So the big difference is the carrier that allows the Phaeton to swallow a bigger disk at the rear than the RS4. The Phaeton carrier also has a larger CC where it's bolted to the wheel hub assembly. I belive it would be pretty easy and safe to modify the RS4 b7 carriers to take this 335mm disc, not that I will do it though. Or I believe that you could use the carrier from the RS6 C5 with the RS4 caliper. Anyone want to buy a set of Phaeton rear brakes? =)
The front one fits nicely, but that was no surprise since they are basically the same as RS4 b7. The difference between these and my previous RS6 c4 calipers is that these have a unicorn horn instead of that stabilization plate (or what it is, seen here). The RS4 b7 and RS5 have neither of these "features" and I'm not sure what the function of the unicorn horn is. Anyone have a guess?
